What compels art to keep moving in a world defined by constant transformation? Momentum, presented by 079|STORIES in collaboration with Interspace, New Delhi, brings together ten contemporary artists whose practices engage with the forces that shape our present ecological uncertainty, memory, labour, identity, architecture, domesticity, and the evolving nature of human experience. Curated by Delhi-based writer and curator Shankar Tripathi, the exhibition examines momentum not merely as movement, but as a condition of persistence, becoming, and continuous negotiation.

Across painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, quilting, sculpture, and mixed-media practices, the exhibition explores how artistic processes respond to a society in flux. Rather than converging around a singular aesthetic or manifesto, the participating artists create a dynamic field of dialogue where personal histories intersect with collective realities, and where material experimentation becomes a means of questioning inherited structures. Together, the works reveal movement as something both physical and conceptual, at once – fragile, political, speculative, and deeply human.

The exhibition features works by Aman Kumar, Anshu Kumari, Ishita Patel, Jaimini Jariwala, Manaswini Balekkala, Shashikanta Mohanty, Shruti Parekh, Simran Yagyik, Soumen Ray, and Vatsya Padia. While each artist approaches their practice through a distinct conceptual and material language, together they explore various themes. Their works challenge fixed ways of seeing, proposing momentum not as speed or progress alone, but as endurance, dialogue, care, rupture, and the continual unfolding of new possibilities.

Rather than seeking definitive conclusions, Momentum invites viewers into a space of reflection where art becomes an active force – one that questions, disrupts, and reimagines the conditions of contemporary life. Through diverse practices and perspectives, the exhibition foregrounds the power of artistic inquiry to navigate uncertainty while opening new conversations around the social, cultural, and emotional realities of our time.
