Archer Art Gallery Announces Parikrama: A Major Solo Exhibition by Sculptor Ganesh Gohain

Archer Art Gallery is proud to present Parikrama, a major solo exhibition by celebrated sculptor Ganesh Gohain, opening on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Marking the artist’s sixtieth year, this exhibition serves as a reflective journey through time, memory, space, and personal transformation.

The title, Parikrama, refers to a sacred, cyclical pilgrimage. For Gohain, this conceptual framework grew organically out of a deep reverence for the Narmada River in Gujarat and a personal tribute to his late grandmother, who shared the river’s name. Bridging his childhood roots in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with his decades spent in Gujarat, which he describes as a spiritual Gurukul, Gohain’s works translate personal relationships, landscapes, and inner philosophies into visual form.

Though trained as a sculptor, Gohain approaches two-dimensional mediums like drawing, painting, and photography with a distinct sculptural sensibility. Parikrama features works that model canvas like clay, use pen-and-ink lines resembling woven textiles, and incorporate metallic yellow and silver tones to capture the shifting temperament of light. Key motifs, such as feet, river stones, bronze eggs, and custom-designed frames acting as  active “bodies” within the work, reveal a practice centered on the unseen and the  experiential.

“At sixty, I do not feel that I am arriving anywhere. I feel that I am continuing,” says Gohain.
“Parikrama is not a destination; it is a movement around memory, existence, time, and
space.”

The exhibition will remain on view through 10 October 2026.

About the Artist

Ganesh Gohain (b. 1966, Assam) completed his art education at the College of Arts & Crafts, Guwahati, and the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University, Baroda, alongside advanced training at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Le Mans, France. Known for his versatile use of bronze, ceramic, terracotta, and mixed media, Gohain has exhibited widely across India  and internationally.
